(NEWS10) — On Sunday morning, in the same church where Reverend Robert Dixon served as pastor for 36 years, he was honored, with family and friends by his side, with the New York State Liberty Award for both his military and community service achievements.Reverend Dixon served during World War II and as a Buffalo Soldier at West Point, training groups of cadets in horsemanship. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The champion thoroughbred racehorse Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, has passed away. He was 23 years old. He also was only the 30th horse in history to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Funny Cide retired in 2008 to Kentucky Horse Park, where he is enshrined in their Hall of Champions. The park announced that he passed away on July 16 from complications with colic. The City of Los Angeles has opened dedicated cooling centers at many locations throughout the city as temperatures remain at or near triple digits. Authorities are searching for three suspects after two individuals were robbed and assaulted with a bat in Westlake. According to the LAPD, officers responded to the area of 8th and Alvarado Streets on reports of a stabbing around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
